The Federal Reserve Board on Tuesday announced its approval of the application and notice by BB&T Corporation, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to merge with First Virginia Banks, Inc., Falls Church, Virginia, and thereby acquire its banking and nonbanking subsidiaries.
