If you enroll your eligible dependents at the same time you enroll yourself
for coverage, then their coverage is effective at the same time as your coverage.
If you do not enroll your spouse and children when they are first eligible,
then you must wait until the next annual open season, and their coverage will
be effective the following January.
If you have no eligible dependents when you first become an FEHB participant,
then you may change to family coverage within 60 days of adding your first eligible
dependent.
If you have eligible dependents when you first become an FEHB participant, but
they have coverage through another source and then subsequently lose their coverage,
then you may change to family coverage within 60 days of your dependents' loss
of coverage.
