If you enroll when you are first eligible, then your coverage is effective the day you enroll, as long as you are in a pay and duty status on that day.
If you do not enroll when you are first eligible, then you can enroll at any time and will be considered a late enrollee for whom benefits for major and orthodontic services may be reduced to 30 percent for the first 24 months of coverage.
