Health Services
The Board offers a number of health services
to help employees maintain their physical and mental health and
prevent illness.

Medical Treatment
The Health Unit is staffed by registered nurses and
offers services such as:
- Treatment for illnesses and injuries;
- Influenza vaccinations, allergy injections,
and treatments prescribed by private doctors; and
- Counseling, information on health issues,
and referrals for community medical services.
Services:
- Registered nurses provide treatment for illnesses
and injuries;
- Administration of influenza vaccinations,
allergy injections, and other treatments prescribed by private
physicians;
- Counseling and information on health issues;
- Screenings to detect early signs of disease,
such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, and elevated blood sugar;
- Referrals to medical services in the community;
- Lunchtime health education programs;
- Coordination of quarterly Red Cross blood
drives; and
- Preventive Health Screens, including comprehensive blood tests, EKG's, urinalysis, and an interview with the Board's physician; and
- Medical information for overseas business travel.
Note: A medical record is created for each newly
hired employee. All medical records are confidential and do not
become part of employee personnel files.
The Health Unit, located on the concourse level of
the Martin Building, Room M-C-408, is open Monday through Friday,
from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Physical Exams
All employees are eligible to receive
a preventive health screening every year. The screening is
performed by the Board's physician at no cost to employees.
All newly hired employees will have a personal interview
to determine their health status and to begin their medical records.
All medical records will be kept confidential and will not become
part of the employee's personnel file.
Preventive Care
The Board also offers the following preventive care
services to employees:
- Screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol,
blood sugar levels, and other health factors;
- Lunchtime health education programs with
guest speakers and videos;
- CPR classes; and
- Quarterly blood drives for the American Red
Cross.
Fitness Center
Fitness Centers are available in the Martin and New York Avenue buildings. The centers are fully equipped for cardiovascular
and muscle conditioning, and include the following conveniences
at no cost:
- An on-duty fitness specialist to provide individualized exercise
instruction and conduct group aerobic classes (Martin Building Center only);
- Showers and locker facilities;
- Cardiovascular and muscle conditioning equipment;
- Squash courts; and
- Basketball backboard.
To use the facilities, employees must receive a medical
screening by the Health Unit staff.
Located on the lower level of the Martin Building,
the Fitness Center is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day, to
authorized staff.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The Employee Assistance Program is an on-site program
offered at no cost to employees and their immediate family members.
Services include counseling for work, marital, family, and substance
abuse issues.
The EAP counselor maintains confidential employee
data separate from other employee files.
