Career Advancement at the Board
Job Evaluation
Job evaluation differs from individual performance appraisals
conducted under the Performance Management Program. Job evaluation focuses
on the characteristics of the job itself, and not on the individual performing
the job.
The Board maintains a formal job evaluation program as
a way to consistently determine the relative value of all its jobs. Job
evaluation is a method of placing jobs within pay grades, based on factors
that measure the degree to which certain basic characteristics are present
in each job.
All jobs are evaluated using a point system to rate specific
job characteristics or factors. Employees may contact the Management Division
or consult the Compensation Manual for a listing and explanation of these
factors.
Job descriptions provide the information for fair
job evaluation and classification. Every distinct job at the Board
must have a job description that clearly defines, in condensed form,
the key duties, responsibilities, and knowledge requirements for
the position.
