Advancing within a Job Family

Board employees can advance in their careers without changing the focus of their work. The Board groups similar jobs within job families. This allows employees to move up without changing jobs. Each job family begins with positions at a certain grade level and advances to more complex jobs at higher grade levels.

Some jobs have career ladders consisting of different levels of responsibility. A career ladder progression is a grade increase based on an employee's proven ability to perform satisfactorily at the next grade level. Career ladder progressions can be achieved up to the full-performance level within a career ladder. The full-performance level is the highest level that one can attain within a career ladder without competing for the position.
