Career Advancement at the Board
Academic Assistance Program
The Board offers tuition assistance through the Academic
Assistance Program to staff members who want to enhance their jobs and
career potential through education. The program helps defray some of the
expenses of a college education or coursework.
Within limits defined in the Academic Assistance Policy, staff members receive assistance for
expenses associated with job-related courses and Board-related degree
programs at accredited academic or technical educational institutions.
Employees should carefully select coursework, obtaining
counseling from Training and Development staff members, their managers,
and the college or university. Current catalogs for local colleges, universities,
and business schools are available in the Management Division.
The Board will pay 100 percent of tuition costs, up to
an annual cap for undergraduate and graduate coursework and up to $100
per course for books, subject to applicable taxes. For full-time regular and temporary employees, assistance is available
for up to two courses per semester or a maximum of six courses per calendar
year at schools on a semester system. Assistance is available for up to
two courses per quarter or a maximum of six courses per calendar year
at schools on a quarter system.
Generally, employees must be employed with the Federal
Reserve System for six months in order to be eligible for the program.
To apply for Academic Assistance, employees must complete an Application
for Academic Assistance (form FR-177). The application must be received
by a training specialist, at mail stop 146, fifteen days before
the date of course registration.
Employees may obtain applications from their division's
administrative office or through the Forms page on Inside the
Board.
