How to apply for research assistant positions in the economic research divisions
Thank you for your interest in research assistant positions in the economic research divisions (Research and Statistics, Monetary Affairs, and International Finance) at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, located in Washington, D.C.
The economic research divisions accept applications for research assistant positions throughout the year. However, our interviewing and hiring generally occur in March/April. We recommend submitting completed application materials by January 31 or as soon as possible thereafter.
For almost all research assistant positions, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who intend to become citizens. In addition, U.S. citizens will receive preference in employment over equally qualified persons who are not U.S. citizens.
Please note that we must receive all of the information requested below before we can consider your application.
Application Instructions
We are currently accepting application materials via fax or e-mail. Address and send all of your application materials to one of the individuals listed below.
- Print out, complete, and fax the application form and survey of interests form below (please note: the forms cannot be completed and saved in electronic form). Please read, but do not return, the application notices.
- Obtain and fax your official college transcripts. If your college does not issue official transcripts to students, please obtain an “issued to student” copy from your registrar. Unofficial text versions will not be accepted. If you have attended more than one college or university, please submit transcripts from each school.
- Obtain and fax three signed letters of recommendation. At least two letters should be from professors in economics or a related field. If a recommender is reluctant to give the letter to you, please have the recommender fax or e-mail the recommendation directly.
- Fax or e-mail a résumé and a cover letter. Information pertaining to your computer skills and courses that are not reflected on your transcript should be included in the cover letter.
- Retain the original application materials. The faxed or e-mailed materials will be used only to expedite application review. Applicants invited to interview with us will be asked to bring the original documents to the interview.
Address and send all of your application materials to one of the following individuals. Applications will be circulated to all three divisions, regardless of the division to which the materials were sent.
