Research and Statistics
The Division of Research and Statistics is responsible for developing and presenting economic and financial data and analysis for the use of the Board, the Federal Open Market Committee, and other Federal Reserve System officials. This information serves as background for the formulation and conduct of monetary, regulatory, and supervisory policies. In addition, the division fosters a broader understanding of issues relating to economic policy by providing leadership in economic and statistical research and by supplying data and analyses for public release.
Financial Structure
The Financial Structure section analyzes the competitive effects of proposals by bank holding companies to engage in mergers and acquisitions or to enter new areas of activity. It also provides the Board with information and analysis on current and emerging developments affecting the structure and performance of the U.S. banking sector. In support of these functions, the section conducts basic and applied research in the areas of industrial organization and financial economics and develops or maintains several extensive microeconomic data sets, including information on small business finances.
