The price for the Dow Jones bank index starts in 2007 at 100, remains at about that level through February 2007, declines to about 95 in March 2007, rises on balance to about 98 in May 2007, falls to the high 80s in August 2007, rises on balance to about 92 in early October 2007, falls on balance to about 64 by mid-January 2008, recovers to about 74 in early February 2008, and drops again to about 62 in mid-March 2008 before edging up in late March to about 66. The price for the S&P 500 index begins in 2007 at 100, stays at about that level until February 2007, then dips to about 98 in March 2007. It rises on balance over the next several months to about 108 in mid-July 2007, drops to about 100 in August 2007, rises on balance to about 110 in late October 2007, falls on balance to about 94 in January 2008, and then edges down a little further through March 2008.
