The Library and the Research Process

The Research Library provides information services in support of the Board economic research community. Electronic alerts are available to inform users about new literature that is relevant to the researcher's specific interests. Personalized research assistance, literature searches, desktop tools and the research collections are used during the course of research. When research is complete, library staff catalog and index Board research products in Fed-in- Print and other databases.

Services

The Research Library's librarians provide tailored research assistance, including literature searches and fact checking. The staff provide assistance in searching and accessing information in online tools and in the Library's print collection. The staff acquire books, journals, and access to online resources on topics of interest to Board economists and initiate interlibrary loan requests on behalf of Board staff.

The Research Library primarily serves the Board, although library resources are also available to the Federal Reserve Banks and, to a limited extent, the public.

Collection

The Research Library has a unique collection of over 60,000 volumes. The collection includes books and official documents on monetary policy, domestic and international banking, economics, finance, the history and activities of the Federal Reserve System, and major publications of other central banks.

The Research Library intranet portal, which provides access to the library's online catalog and over sixty electronic resources, is the first research stop for many Board research staff. A substantial portion of the Library's collection is available electronically via such tools as JSTOR, EconLit, working papers from dozens of organizations, the internet sites of major central banks, and about 4,000 electronic journals.
