Mission
The Research Library provides a variety of services in support of the mission, programs, and activities of the Federal Reserve Board. Although the Research Library primarily serves the Board, library resources also are available to the Federal Reserve Banks and, to a limited extent, the public.
Services
The Research Library has a staff of highly qualified professional librarians who provide research services and access to electronic resources. The staff also acquire and make available books and journals and conduct on-line database searches.
Collection
The Research Library has a unique collection of about 60,000 volumes and 2,000 journal titles. The specialized collection includes resource material on monetary policy, domestic and international banking, economics, finance, the history and activities of the Federal Reserve System, and major publications of other central banks. The library also has access to selected electronic services, government documents, and microform products.
Electronic Resources
The key to the library's collection is its powerful on-line catalog, which is available to all Federal Reserve employees on the library's intranet site. The library also provides end-user access to many other electronic services, including JSTOR and EconLit, working papers from dozens of organizations, and about 1,500 electronic journals.
Acquisitions
Recommendations from Board staff for expanding and strengthening the library collection are encouraged and are given careful consideration on the basis of overall contribution and cost.
Circulation
Federal Reserve staff may borrow books and journals from the library and through interlibrary loan. New issues of most journal titles can be routinely routed to interested staff.
Interlibrary Loans
Research Library staff can acquire books, journals, and other documents through interlibrary loan in the D.C. area as well as from Federal Reserve Bank libraries. Difficult-to-find journal articles also can be obtained from document delivery services.
