Beginning 2009:Q1, levels are calculated as equity U.S. direct investment abroad ( LM263192101 ) multiplied by the holding company sector's share of total U.S. direct investment abroad ( LM733092003 / LM263192001 ). Returns are determined according to capital gains on total equity U.S. direct investment abroad ( FR263192101 ). Transactions are the change in level less the revaluation component. The last ten years of data show no significant seasonality.
