Data Description:
Includes the amount of currency and coin included in "Noninterest-bearing Balances and Currency and Coin (0081)" (reported in Schedule RC). Currency and coin includes both U.S. and foreign currency and coin owned and held in all offices of the reporting bank, currency and coin in transit to a Federal Reserve Bank or to any other depository institution for which the reporting bank has not yet received credit, and currency and coin in transit from a Federal Reserve Bank or from any other depository institution for which the reporting bank's account has already been charged. Foreign currency and coin has been converted into U.S. dollar equivalents. COMPARABILITY: Beginning 12/31/2000, reported on the CUSA series and includes the change fund (change fund includes coin, currency and cash items such as stamps) vault cash, vault funds in transit, currency supply for automatic teller machines (ATMs). Prior to 12/31/78, excludes foreign currency and coin (reported in "All Other Assets (2168)"). Prior to 9/12/68, for FEDF series, data are for opening of business amount on day of reference; After this date, amounts are average end of day vault cash held two weeks earlier. NOTE: Reported in Schedule RC-M for the FFIEC 034 report. For the FFIEC 002 report, excludes all transactions with related depository institutions. Beginning 10/30/80, excludes: (1) foreign currency and coin; (2) silver and gold coin and other currency and coin whose numismatic or bullion value is in excess of face value; (3) United States currency and coin that the reporting institution does not have full and unrestricted right to use, such as coin collections held for safekeeping for customers, currency and coin pledged as collateral by the reporting institution or by customers, or currency and coin sold under a repurchase agreement or purchased under a resale agreement; (4) cash shipped by the reporting institution to a Federal Reserve Bank for which credit has been given to the reporting institution; and (5) checks, drafts, and cash items in process of collection for the Report of Transaction Accounts, Other Deposits and Vault Cash (EDDS) series.
