Data Description:

Includes the balance of all demand deposits in the form of deposits due to U.S. commercial banks and trust companies performing a commercial banking business, branches and agencies of foreign (non-U.S.) banks (including branches and agencies of foreign official banking institutions), Edge Act and Agreement Corporations, industrial banks, and New York State Investment Companies (chartered under Article XII of the New York State Banking Code) that perform a banking business and that are majority-owned by one or more non-U.S. banks. Also includes other U.S. banks and Edge Act and Agreement Corporations (that is, other than the reporting institution's own foreign offices), commercial banks, merchant banks, discount houses, and similar banking institutions organized under the laws of a foreign country, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, or the Virgin Islands, or other territories of the United States, and foreign official banking institutions. Reciprocal demand balances due to an institution listed above, except those of non-U.S. offices may be reported net of balances "due from" those institutions. If it is burdensome for the reporting institution to report reciprocal balances with the above institutions on a net basis they may report such balances gross. Demand balances due to other U.S. banks and Edge Act and Agreement Corporations, commercial banks, merchants banks, discount houses, and similar banking institutions organized under the laws of a foreign country, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, or the Virgin Islands, or other territories of the U.S., and foreign official banking institutions are reported gross. Excludes demand deposits due to mutual and stock savings banks, credit unions, building or savings and loan associations, homestead associations and cooperative banks which are included in "Demand Deposits Due to Other Depository Institutions (2312)".
