Data Description:

Includes the outstanding principal balances of all consumer loans and financing leases. Includes:

1. Loans that are fully secured by the pledge or assignment of the borrowers' deposits or other credits at the lending institution;

2. All improvement loans (insured or uninsured) made for the equipping, alteration, repair or improvement of 1-4 family homes that, even if secured, are based primarily on the creditworthiness of the borrower. Excludes loans for the improvement of multifamily housing (five or more units) or for other than residential property (reported as commercial loans in items 6508 and 6509);

3. All loans that are intended to be used by a student solely for the payment of college or vocational education expenses;

4. All auto loans made to consumers. Includes loans made to individuals for pickup or panel trucks that are primarily for personal use. Loans on cars or trucks intended primarily for commercial, rather than personal use, along with all floor-planning loans (i.e., those made to dealers to finance inventory), are   reported as commercial loans in items 6508 and 6509;

5. Loans made to finance the acquisition of mobile homes except by dealers. Wholesale (floor-planning) loans to dealers to finance inventory are reported as commercial loans in items 6508 and 6509;

6. The funded portion of all revolving, open-end loans secured by 1-4 dwelling units and extended under lines of credit (open-end equity loans) where the institution extends credit based primarily on the creditworthiness of the borrower;

7. The funded portion of other open-end consumer loans such as: (a) credit extended in connection with credit cards; and (b) overdrafts of consumer transaction accounts (these must be classified as loans); and

8. All financing leases (leveraged leases) for consumer purposes.
