Data Description:

MSLP: Y/N, Subsidiary based on FRB Database A one-digit code indicating whether a reporting entity is a subsidiary bank holding company and, if so, whether the top tier in the holding company files the FR Y-9C report. The codes are: BHCK9802 (for the FR Y-9C) 1 = This company is a top-tier holding company. If the company is majority owned by some other domestic or foreign company, then code should be either a "2" or a "3." 2 = This company is a lower-tier holding company and a higher-tier also files an FR Y-9C. The higher-tier consolidates this holding company in its FR Y-9C. 3 = This company is a lower-tier holding company and no higher-tier files an FR Y-9C. This code would apply, for example, to holding companies that are owned by ESOPs (Employee Stock Ownership Plans) or directly owned by non-U.S. holding companies. In order to select top-tier holding companies (the most frequently used selection), those records with BHCK9802 = "1" or "3" should be selected. BHCP9802 (for the FR Y-9LP) 1 = This company is either a top-tier holding company that also files an FR Y-9C or a lower-tier holding company that, for reporting purposes only, files an FR Y-9C and FR Y-9LP as the top-tier. 2 = This company does not file an FR Y-9C. 3 = This company is a lower-tier holding company and is required to file the FR Y-9C. BHCR9802 (overall report status) 1 = Top-tier BHC, filed FR Y-9C and FR Y-9LP. 2 = Lower-tier BHC whose top-tier BHC also files, filed a FR Y-9C and FR Y-9LP. 3 = Lower-tier BHC whose top-tier BHC does not file, filed a FR Y-9C and FR Y-9LP. 4 = FR Y-9LP only. 5 = FR Y-9SP only. 9 = Any other combination. Note: during the time when reports are being received there will often be cases where BHCR9802 = 9 indicates that the complete set of reports has not yet been put on the archival file. BHSP9802 (for the FR Y-9SP)    Prior to June 30, 1998 1 = This company is a top-tier BHC with no subsidiary BHCs. 2 = This company is a multi-tiered BHC with a lower tier also filing an FR Y-9SP. This code applies when there is an investment in a subsidiary BHC, and may have an investment in a bank subsidiary if there is direct ownership. 3 = This company is the lowest tiered BHC of a multi-tiered BHC that directly owns a bank.    June 30, 1998 through December 31, 2001 1 = This company is a top-tier BHC with no subsidiary BHCs. 4 = This company is a lower-tier BHC that for reporting purposes only files the FR Y-9SP as the top-tier.    June 30, 2002 through December 31, 2009 1 = This company is a top-tier BHC with no subsidiary BHCs. 2 = This company is a top-tier BHC of a multi-tiered BHC. 3 = This company is a multi-tiered BHC with a lower tier also filing an FR Y-9SP. This code applies when there is an investment in a subsidiary BHC, and may have an investment in a bank subsidiary if there is direct ownership. 4 = This company is the lowest tiered BHC of a multi-tiered BHC that directly owns a bank. 5 = This company is a lower-tier BHC that for reporting purposes only files the FR Y-9SP as the top-tier. (In the case where both SUBFLAG codes 4 and 5 are applicable, SUBFLAG code 5 should take precedence over SUBFLAG code 4.)    June 30, 2010 and Forward 6 = This company is either a top-tier holding company and files as the top-tier (This code would apply, for example, to single-tier holding companies.) OR a lower-tier holding company that functions as the consolidated top-tier for the FR Y-9SP. (This code would apply, for example, to holding companies that are owned by ESOPs, directly owned by non-U.S. holding companies, or are controlled by a limited partnership.) 7 = This company is a lower-tier holding company and files as the lower-tier. 8 = This company is a top-tier holding company, however, for financial reporting purposes a subsidiary holding company in the organization files as the top-tier. (In a multi-tiered organization it is possible for sub flag codes "6" and "8" to apply.) --------------- FR Y-12 and FR Y-12A values (BHEI 9802 and FHMB 9802) are as follows: 1 - This company is a top-tier BHC/FHC that files an FR Y-9C. 2 - This company is a lower-tier BHC/FHC that for reporting purposes files an FR Y-9C as the top-tier. 3 - This company is a top-tier BHC/FHC that files an FR Y-9SP. 4 - This company is a lower-tier BHC/FHC that for reporting purposes files an FR Y-9SP as the top-tier. FR Y 2320 (SLHC9802) 1 - This company is a top-tier SLHC. If the company is majority owned by some other domestic or foreign company, then code should be either a "2" or a "3." 2 - This company is a lower-tier SLHC and a higher-tier also files an FR 2320. The higher-tier consolidates this SLHC in its FR 2320. 3 - This company is a lower-tier SLHC and no higher-tier files an FR 2320. COMPARABILITY: Prior to 3/31/91, for BHCK9802, BHCP9802 and BHSP9802 code 0 was used indicating that the company had not filed an FR Y-9C, FR Y-9LP or FR Y-9SP report.
