Figure 11. Bank holdings of securities as a proportion of total bank assets, 1990-2005. Data plotted as a curve. The series begins in 1990 at about 19 percent, rises to reach about 26 percent at the end of 1993, and then declines-quickly at first and then more gradually-to reach about 19 percent in early 2001. It rises, on balance, to reach almost 24 percent in the first quarter of 2004 and then falls, on balance, to about 21 percent at the end of 2005.
