The amount for which banks were beneficiaries begins in 2000 at about $0.2 trillion and rises gradually through the end of 2003 to reach about $0.5 trillion. It then rises increasingly rapidly to reach about $3.1 trillion at the end of 2005. The amount for which banks were guarantors begins in 2000 at about $0.2 trillion and rises gradually through the end of 2003 to reach about $0.5 trillion. It then rises increasingly rapidly to reach about $2.7 trillion at the end of 2005.
