The price for the 225 largest banks starts in 2006 at 100, rises on balance to about 106 in May 2006, declines on balance to about 98 in June 2006, rises on balance to around 118 in late February 2007, drops to around 104 by mid-March 2007, and then rises on balance to around 108 by the end of March 2007. The price for the S&P 500 begins in 2006 at 100, rises on balance to around 103 by May 2006, declines on balance to about 97 in June 2006, rises on balance to about 114 in late February 2007, declines to around 109 by mid-March 2007, and then rises to about 112 by the end of March 2007.

NOTE: The data are weekly and extend through March 2007. Stock prices are weighted by market value.
