You don't receive the equity in the vehicle if you return it at the end of the lease. However, you may be able to acquire the equity by

1. Exercising the purchase option
2. At the end of the lease, renegotiating the vehicle's value with the lessor and transferring your purchase option to a dealer or other third party of your choosing.
