Call for Papers

The Seventh Conference organised by the International Research Forum on Monetary Policy (IRFMP) will be held at the European Central Bank in Frankfurt, on 16-17 March 2012. The purpose of the IRFMP is to promote the discussion of innovative research on theoretical and empirical macroeconomic issues with relevance for monetary policy.

The global financial crisis and emergence of sovereign debt problems in advanced economies raise important issues for both monetary and fiscal policy. They also call for a re-examination of appropriate methodological approaches to analysing these issues. Accordingly, paper submissions examining the financial crisis, economic imbalances, or proposals to improve existing policy frameworks are highly encouraged. Some particularly relevant topics are:

  • Exit strategies from non-conventional monetary policies
  • Fiscal imbalances and their consequences for macroeconomic policies
  • Interactions between monetary, fiscal, and macro-prudential policies
  • Financial frictions and the real economy
  • International transmission channels (incl. the role of commodity prices)
  • Alternative approaches to modelling economic behaviour relevant to macroeconomic policies (e.g., expectations formation and learning)

The above list of topics is not exhaustive.

Conference papers will be placed on a website; there will be no conference volume. Although this call is being circulated fairly widely, further circulation is encouraged, especially to younger economists.

Complete manuscripts (and not just abstracts) should be submitted electronically in PDF format to [email protected] by 15 November 2011. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by 15 December 2011.

Travel expenses of presenting authors will be reimbursed (though participants from central banks and other official institutions will be expected to cover their own expenses).

*The Forum is sponsored by the European Central Bank (ECB), the Federal Reserve Board (FRB), the BMW Center for German and European Studies (CGES) at Georgetown University, and the Center for Financial Studies (CFS) at the Goethe University. It organises biannual conferences that are held alternately in Frankfurt and Washington, DC. The organisers of the 2012 conference are Günter Coenen (ECB), Matthew Canzoneri (CGES), Christopher Erceg (FRB), and Thomas Laubach (CFS).
