For release at 12:00 p.m. EST

The Federal Reserve Board on Friday announced plans to recognize the exemplary work of Federal Reserve System staff with the presentation of a newly created Janet L. Yellen Award for Excellence in Community Development.

The award is intended to honor former Chair Yellen's commitment to ensuring that the perspectives of consumers and communities informed Federal Reserve research, policy, and action. It will be presented annually to System staff who provide leadership and demonstrate outstanding achievement in community development activities that further the System's responsibilities and goals.

"During her tenure as chair of the Federal Reserve, Janet Yellen elevated the importance of economic and financial inclusion as well as the community development function," said Federal Reserve Board Chairman Jerome H. Powell. "She often reminded us that an inclusive economy is a vibrant economy. It is a legacy that my colleagues and I are honored to carry forward."

The inaugural Janet L. Yellen Award, to be presented on December 3, will go to Ariel Cisneros of the Federal Reseve Bank of Kansas City. Ariel is being recognized in appreciation and acknowledgement for his work in developing innovative and impactful community development resources and programs to benefit low- to moderate-income communities.
