For release at 12:00 p.m. EST

The Federal Reserve Board and the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) on Friday invited public comment on interim final rules to amend regulations for processing requests under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

The Freedom of Information Improvement Act of 2016, enacted June 30, 2016, makes changes to a number of existing procedures for handling FOIA requests. To comply with the act, both the Board and the FOMC are publishing interim final rules. The Board is amending its Rules Regarding Availability of Information to reflect the required statutory changes, as well as making technical, nonsubstantive changes to correct outdated information. The FOMC is amending its Rules Regarding Availability of Information to reflect the required statutory changes, as well as making other technical changes to clarify existing procedures for requesting information and to update contact information.

The effective date for the interim final rules is December 27, 2016. Comments are requested within 60 days of publication in the Federal Register, which is expected shortly.
