The figure shows section 529 prepaid plan assets by state and year in the United States. Each state in the map is shaded according to the level of prepaid plan assets: No Plan, < 0.25 billion, 0.25-0.5 billion, 0.5-1.0 billion, and 1.0-6.0 billion. In 2002 no state had more than 1.0 billion in prepaid plan assets. These measures were derived using publicly available data from the College Savings Network (CSPN). This figure covers 2002 to the present, with a one year lag. States with plans during this period include: Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. Data were not available for all of these states in every year. Exceptions: Florida (no data reported for 2002), Ohio (no data reported for 2007-2012), and Alaska (no data for 2002-2008). The figure shows section 529 savings plan assets by state and year in the United States. Each state in the map is shaded according to the level of savings plan assets: No Plan, < 0.5 billion, 0.5-1.0 billion, 1.0-5.0 billion, 5.0-10 billion, and > 10.0 billion. In no state had more than 5.0 billion in savings plan assets until 2003, and no state had more than 10 billion until 2005. These measures were derived using publicly available data from the College Savings Network (CSPN). This figure covers 2002 to the present, with a one year lag. States with plans during this period include: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
