Data Description:

In the appropriate subitem all income on assets that are reportable in Schedule RC-B, Securities are reported in this item. Included is accretion of discount, and amortization of premium on securities is deducted. (Refer to the Glossary entry in the Report of Condition and Income Instruction Booklet for "premiums and discounts.")

Included are interest and dividends on securities held in the bank's held-to-maturity and available-for-sale portfolios, even if such securities have been lent, sold under agreements to repurchase, or pledged as collateral for any purpose. Also included is interest received at the sale of securities to the extent that such interest had not already been accrued on the bank's books.

Accrued interest included in the purchase price of securities from income on securities are not to be deducted and charged to expense. Such interest are recorded in a separate asset account (reported in Schedule RC-F, item 2168) to be offset upon collection of the next interest payment.

Income from detached U.S. Government security coupons and ex-coupon U.S. Government securities not held in trading accounts are reported in Schedule RI - Statement for the FFIEC 034 report in item 3660 as interest and dividend income on "U.S. Government securities and other debt securities" and for the FFIEC 031, 032, and 033 reports in item 3657 as interest and dividend income on "Other domestic debt securities." (Refer to the Glossary entry in the Report of Condition and Income Instruction Booklet for "coupon stripping, Treasury receipts, and STRIPS."

Excludes realized gains (losses) on held-to-maturity securities and on available-for-sale securities (reported in Schedule RI, items 3521 and 3196, respectively).

Includes premiums received or discounts paid on foreign exchange contracts related to financial swap transactions involving securities. Such gains or losses are known at the inception of the contract and should be amortized over the life of the contract.

For the FFIEC 031, 032, and 033 reports, includes the sum of "Total Interest on Securities and Obligations (4027)", "Interest and Dividend Income on Securities Issued by States and Political Subdivisions in the U.S. (4066(D))", "Interest and Dividend Income on Other Domestic Debt Securities (3657)", "Interest and Dividend Income on Foreign Debt Securities (3658)" and "Interest and Dividend Income on Equity Securities (Including Investments in Mutual Funds) (3659)".

For the FFIEC 034 report, includes the sum of "Interest and Dividend Income on Securities Issued by States and Political Subdivisions in the U.S. (4066(D))", "Interest and Dividend Income on U.S. Government Securities and Other Debt Securities (3660)" and "Interest and Dividend Income on Equity Securities (Including Investments in Mutual Funds) (3659)".

COMPARABILITY:

Beginning 3/31/03, for "BHBC" title is "Interest Income on Investment Securities" and is reported on Notes to the Income Statement - Predecessor Financial Items for the FR Y-9C (BHCK) report.

Beginning 3/31/01, reported as a derived item for the FFIEC 031 and 041 reports which includes the sum of items (B488) "U.S. Treasury Securities and U.S. Government Agency Obligations (excluding mortgage-backed securities)", (B489)"Mortgage-backed Securities", and (4060) "All Other Securities (includes securities issued by states and political subdivisions in the U.S.)". Reported on Schedule RI - Income Statement.

Prior to 3/31/89, for the FFIEC 031, 032, and 033 reports, includes the sum of "Total Interest on Securities and Obligations (4027)", "Interest and Dividend Income on Securities Issued by States and Political Subdivisions in the U.S. (4066(D))", "Interest and Dividend Income on Other Domestic Securities (Debt and Equity) (4067)" and "Interest and Dividend Income on Foreign Securities (Debt and Equity) (4068)".
