Data Description:


Interest and discount (both current and past due interest) on all assets which in condition reports are reported as loans and discounts. This includes interest and discount on acceptances, commercial paper purchased in open market, drafts for which bank has given deposit credit to customers, etc.; and on paper which has been rediscounted with Federal Reserve or other banks, sold under repurchase agreement, or pledged as collateral to secure bills payable or for any other purpose.

Profits (or losses) resulting from sale of acceptances and commercial paper at discount rates other than those at which such paper was purchased is included in (or deducted from) this item.

Interest or discount rebated to customers on loans paid before maturity is deducted from gross interest and discount on loans, and not reported as an expense.

Current amortization of premiums on real estate mortgages or other loans is deducted from gross interest and discount on loans. Premiums not amortized over life of mortgages but charged off in a lump sum are reported against "Charge-Offs On Loans (5116)."

COMPARABILITY:

The following changes in definition occurred in the Report Of Condition:

Prior to 6/30/66: (1) includes Export-Import portfolio participations; (2) includes loans to farmers directly guaranteed by CCC. Both items were reclassified and beginning 6/30/66 are included in "Obligations Of Other U.S. Government Agencies And Corporations (0600)."
