Code 01 - Service Corporation is an entity in which the majority of the capital stock is owned by one or more insured thrift institutions.
Code 02 - Subsidiary of a Service Corporation or a Joint Venture: A joint venture or subsidiary of a service corporation is an entity that is owned in part or in full by a service corporation as defined above. Classify an entity as a Subsidiary of a Service Corporation if the Service Corporation:
Owns, controls, or holds more than 25% of the voting stock;
Is a general partner; or
Is a limited partner and has contributed more than 25% of the limited partnership's capital.
Do not include joint ventures that do not meet these criteria; report as Code 03 - Joint Venture not Qualifying as "Subsidiary."
Code 03 - Joint Venture not Qualifying as "Subsidiary": Classify an entity as joint venture not qualifying as "subsidiary" only if the parent is not a general partner and if the parent is a limited partner that has contributed less than 25% of the limited partnership's capital.
The term "joint venture" means any joint undertaking by a service corporation or a wholly owned subsidiary thereof with one or more persons or legal entities in any form, including: a joint tenancy, tenancy in common, or partnership. Also include an investment in a corporation other than wholly owned subsidiary.
