Data Description:
Includes the amount of premiums earned by property-casualty insurers and the amount of premiums written by life and health insurers. Report income from agency and brokerage operations (includes sales of annuities and supplemental contracts); service charges, commissions, and fees from the sale of insurance and related services; and management fees from separate accounts, deferred annuities, and universal life products.
Also includes the bank's proportionate share of the income or loss before extraordinary items and other adjustments from its investments in:
unconsolidated subsidiaries, associated companies, and corporate joint ventures, unincorporated joint ventures, general partnerships, and limited partnerships over which the bank exercises significant influence that are principally engaged in insurance underwriting, reinsurance, or insurance sales activities.
For BHCK, beginning 3/31/02, definition revised to include all income from insurance and reinsurance underwriting.
Excludes commisions and fees on sale of annuities by the trust department of the bank holding companies' banking subsidiaries (or by a consolidated trust company subsidiary) that are executed in a fiduciary capacity (report in Schedule HI, item 5(a), "Income from fiduciary activities"). Also exclude commissions and fees that the bank holding company earns from the sale of annuities to bank holding company customers by securities brokerage firms (report in Schedule HI, item 5(d), "Investment banking, advisory, brokerage, and underwriting fees and commissions").
