Data Description:
Includes paper reported in items 6696 and 6706 sold in the domestic commercial paper market that is backed by various types of domestic and foreign bank-issued letters of credit. Paper backed by letters of credit or guarantees issued by private companies (such as insurance companies) is included. In addition to the amount outstanding backed by a traditional letter of credit or guarantee attached to the commercial paper note, the amount outstanding backed by master letters of credit as well as all third-party irrevocable commitments to lend to an issuing company should the issuer not be able to redeem the paper when it matures is included. Only paper that is 100 percent backed by unaffiliated third parties is included. Does not include paper that is issued by special purpose corporations that uses the proceeds to purchase receivables or to make collateralized loans, even if 100 percent backed by an unaffiliated third party. Outstandings of this paper is reported in item 6430.
