Information Technology Professional
Information technology is critical to the work of the Board. The Board employs modern management techniques that emphasize partnership between the divisions and information technology staff in developing information systems. The Board uses a wide variety of technologies and advanced programming languages. The following technical positions are available to individuals who are U.S. citizens.
System Engineer
System Engineers are responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and enhancing local- and wide-area network infrastructures and services. They diagnose and resolve computer hardware and software problems, apply corrective and preventative maintenance, upgrade hardware and software components, monitor and evaluate performance and capacity, assist clients with application testing and problem resolution, and analyze technological developments and recommend changes to improve the computing environment.
Computer Applications Programmer/Analyst
Computer Applications Programmers/Analysts develop and implement applications for the web, client/server, or mainframe platforms. Programmers/Analysts interface with clients to develop system requirements, design databases, code application interfaces, integrate security controls, test for quality assurance, and implement applications.
Technology & Data Management Analyst
The Board hires candidates with backgrounds in accounting, finance, and economic theories and a good understanding of data processing to work as Technology & Data Management Analysts. Individuals in these positions are responsible for analyzing Federal Reserve System economic, financial, and structure data. Analysts may develop requirements for automated data collection and analysis tools.
Technical Support Engineer
Technical Support Engineers are responsible for supporting distributed processing systems, including workstations and servers. They also provide technical support to clients, administer shared databases, analyze information system requirements, investigate alternative technologies, and recommend appropriate solutions. Some engineers may develop scripts or small applications.
Technology Business Analyst
Technology Business Analysts work closely with the other analysts, business clients, and IT professionals during all phases of system development and deployment. Technology Business Analysts help ensure that documented processes and procedures are followed and that appropriate artifacts are maintained. They work with clients to develop detailed system requirement specification documents, devise testing, document test plans/scripts, perform system testing, support user acceptance testing, and help prepare security documentation. The Technology Business Analyst may track issues and their resolutions, perform certain help desk functions, review logs, and manage computer accounts.
Technology Analyst
The Technology Analyst is responsible for the design, implementation, support, and maintenance of automation tools, programs, and database systems essential to carrying out the responsibilities of the research communities at the Board. Strong technical skills as well as knowledge of economics and finance are important tools for a Technology Analyst in solving problems and in developing new procedures.
