The total outstanding amount is divided into four categories including: FABCP, FABN with put options, FABN with fixed terms <= 397 days and the FABN with fixed terms > 397 days. The x-axis represents the date, from January 1, 2000 to present, excluding recent months. The y-axis represents dollars in billions from 0-200. The lowest trend in the period from 2000-2020, the aquamarine area, is the FABCP trend. It begins mid-2005 at around $1 billion. It hovers around zero till around 2008 where it starts to increase to the maximum height of approximately $8 billion. It continued to increase through the second quarter of 2020 to about $9 billion. The second highest trend in the period from 2000-2020, the light blue area, is the FABN with put options. It begins around 2000 at approximately $0 billion. It steadily increases till around 2008 where it reaches its maximum height of approximately $30 billion. It starts an almost automatic descent to around $5 billion in 2010. The third highest trend in the period from 2000-2020, the dark blue area, is the FABN with fixed terms <= 397 days. It begins in 2000 at approximately $0 billion. It steadily increases to its highest point just after 2008 at approximately $30 billion. Shortly after the peak it starts to decline to $10 billion where it remains fairly constant for the duration of the period. The highest trend in the period from 2000-2020, the green area, is the FABN with fixed terms > 397 days. It begins in 2000 at around $24 billion. It increases steadily till it reaches its peak in 2007 at approximately $175 billion. It starts a steep decline till it reaches its lowest point in 2014 at approximately $60 billion. It increases to roughly $75 billion through mid-2017 and then increases again to around $105 billion through the second quarter of 2020.
