Data Description:

Includes gross operating income, item 1053, less operating expenses and net interest charges. Operating expenses includes:

(1)   Directors fees paid during the month to directors, advisory board members, and members of   committees for attendance at board and committee meetings;

(2)   Officers and employees compensation including all salaries, wages, bonuses, or other compensation as   well as the institution's share of payroll taxes, premiums for related insurance, lunchroom expenses,   tuition fees, uniforms, and any other fringe benefits;

(3)   Legal fees;

(4)   All travel and other expenses paid to or for directors, officers, and employees;

(5)   All expenses related to an institution's occupancy of office quarters, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and   automobiles;

(6)   All marketing expenses (advertising and promotional activity) and commissions paid for deposits;

(7)   All payments for accounting and consulting services;

(8)   All amounts paid for servicing by others of loans or participating interests in loans;

(9)   Amortization of goodwill and other intangible assets;

(10) Amortization of deferred losses on futures/options hedging transactions;

(11) Miscellaneous other operating expenses not specific above.

Net interest charges includes:

(1)   Interest expense of deposits (net of early withdrawal penalties) and borrowings (FHLBANK advances,   commercial bank loans, reverse and retail repurchase agreements, commercial paper, subordinated   debentures, mortgage-backed bonds, and other borrowings); and

(2)   Interest paid on advance payments by borrowers for taxes and insurance, net of interest expense   capitalized during the month.
