Data Description:

Includes all debits to demand deposit accounts of IPCs and states and political subdivisions. Includes individuals, nonprofit organizations and proprietorships, corporations and other profit organizations (excluding proprietorships) mutual funds, and other nondepository financial institutions, as well as the Export-Import Bank and federally-sponsored lending agencies, such as Federal Land Banks, Federal Home Loan Banks, Banks for Cooperatives, etc. Does not include thrift institutions (building or savings and loan associations, homestead associations, cooperative banks, mutual and stock savings banks, and credit unions); United States Government; (optional reporting of relatively minor government accounts. It is important to exclude debits to deposit balances in "Treasury Tax and Loan Account" and "Treasurer of the United States General Account," as well as debits to deposit balances in any other United States Government transfer or control accounts. However, some banks carry a miscellaneous variety of United States Government demand deposit accounts to the credit of disbursing officers, custodians, courts, post exchanges, hospitals, military personnel associations, etc., in the same ledger as individual and corporate accounts. These miscellaneous government accounts may be included in or excluded from reported debits to demand deposits, whichever is more convenient to the reporting bank); international organizations; commercial banks in the United States; and banks in foreign countries (including balances of foreign branches of other U.S. banks). Excludes the amount of debits to ATS, NOW, MMDA's, club accounts, and other savings deposit accounts. Also excludes demand deposits in the the form of certified and officers' checks, travelers' checks, and letters of credit sold for cash. NOTE: Reported on the FR 2573 report. COMPARABILITY: Prior to 7/31/85, includes building and savings and loans, and credit unions. Prior to 10/31/83, demand deposits are withdrawable on demand or are payable with less than 14 days notice. Prior to 7/31/82, demand deposits are withdrawable on demand or are payable with less than 30 days notice.
