Includes the amount outstanding of gross liabilities to the foreign (non-U.S.) bank parent, to its non-U.S. branches and agencies, to its holding company, if any, and to the foreign bank parent's non-U.S. commercial banking subsidiaries and their non-U.S. branches and agencies.


Gross liabilities may arise from: (1) funds placed on deposit at any foreign bank family member by the foreign bank parent and/or other non-U.S. affiliates as designated above, whether payable on demand or at the expiration of a specified maturity; (2) borrowings by any foreign bank family member from the foreign bank parent and/or other non-U.S. affiliates as designated above; (3) purchases of assets from the foreign bank parent and/or other non-U.S. affiliates as designated above, in return for the obligation of any foreign bank family member; (4) sales of assets under agreements to repurchase by any foreign bank family member to non-U.S. affiliates as designated above; (5) checks or drafts drawn by or on behalf of any foreign bank family member on accounts maintained at the foreign bank parent and other non-U.S. affiliates as designated above that give rise to an obligation of the foreign bank family member; (6) funds advanced by the foreign bank parent that are regarded as capital contributions to any foreign bank family member, including adjustments for (1) unremitted earnings (losses) that result from periodic postings of operating results either to the profit and loss account or to the due to/from parent account, and (2) provision of loan loss reserves; (7) overdrawn balances in deposit accounts held in the foreign bank parent and other non-U.S. affiliates as designated above; and (8) other liabilities to the foreign bank parent and other non-U.S. affiliates as designated above, such as those resulting from clearing activities, payments related to foreign exchange transactions, bankers acceptance transactions, and other activities.
