Data Description:
Includes all balances due from banks domiciled outside the United States (including balances from banks located or domiciled in Puerto Rico and in U.S. territories and possessions). Also includes holdings of time certificates of deposit issued by banks in foreign countries. Foreign banks are defined as a bank organized under foreign (non-U.S.) law. Includes commercial banks, merchant banks, discount houses, and similar depository institutions that accept short term deposits, including nationalized banks that perform essentially a banking business and do not perform, to any significant extent, official functions of foreign (non-U.S.) governments. Also includes non-U.S. branches of other U.S. banks, foreign domiciled banking subsidiaries of U.S. banks, and non-U.S. branches and subsidiaries of Edge Act and Agreement Corporations. Excludes non-U.S. branches of the establishing entity, but includes non-U.S. banking subsidiaries of the establishing entity.
