Data Description:
Includes all interest-bearing and noninterest-bearing balances from banks in foreign countries and foreign central banks excluding any held in the reporting bank's trading accounts. Balances, as reported in this item, should reflect funds on deposit at other banks in foreign countries and at foreign central banks for which the reporting bank has already received credit. Balances with foreign central banks should include all balances with such entities, including reserve, operating, and investment balances. All reciprocal balances with banks in foreign countries and foreign central banks are reported gross. Also includes reciprocal balances with banks in foreign countries and foreign central banks may be reported on a net basis when a right of setoff exists. See the Glossary entry for "offsetting" for the conditions that must be met for a right of setoff to exist. Excludes: (1) "Balances With U.S. Branches and Agencies of Foreign Banks" (see item 0082); (2) "Loans to Foreign Central Banks" (see item 2081); (3) "Loans to Banks in Foreign Countries" (see item 1510); (4) "Cash Items in Process of Collection and Unposted Debits" (see item 0022); and (5) Any balances held in trading accounts (see item 2146). COMPARABILITY: Beginning 3/31/01, reported as a derived item on the FFIEC 041. Reported on Schedule RC-A. NOTE: This item includes the sum of items 0073 and 0074 on Schedule RC-A on the FFIEC 031, 032, and 033 reports. Also is a derived item on Schedule A for the FFIEC 002 report, which includes the sum of items 0073 and 1884. COMPARABILITY: Beginning 3/31/1998, for the FFIEC 002 report, reported as a derived item that includes the sum of items 0073, 2431, and 3149. Prior to 3/31/84, item name was "Balances With Banks in Foreign Countries".
