Data Description:
Includes the book value of all debt and equity securities not held in trading accounts issued by non-U.S. -chartered corporations, foreign governments, or special international organizations. Includes as foreign debt securities: (1) bonds, notes, and debentures (including equipment trust certificates) issued by non-U.S. -chartered corporations; (2) securities issued by foreign governmental units; (3) securities issued by international organizations such as the International Bank For Reconstruction and Development (WORLD Bank), Inter-American Development Bank, and Asian Development Bank. Includes as foreign equity securities: (1) common and preferred stock issued by non-U.S. -chartered corporations, including stock acquired for debts previously contracted; (2) minority interests held by the reporting bank in any non-U.S. company not meeting the definition of associated company, except minority holdings that indirectly represent bank premises (included in item 2145); and (3) equity holdings in those non-U.S. corporate joint ventures over which the reporting bank does not exercise significant influence.
Excludes holdings of capital stock of and investments in unconsolidated foreign subsidiaries, non-U.S. associated companies, and those non-U.S. corporate joint ventures over which the reporting bank exercises significant influence (included in item 2130), and holdings of commercial paper, bankers acceptances, and certificates of deposit, which are not classified as securities for purposes of this report.
