2. Trading securities: Applies to mortgage-backed securities that you hold for sale in the near term. Report them at fair value, with unrealized gains or losses reported in earnings, on item no. 0492.
3. Available-for-sale securities: Applies to mortgage-backed securities not classified as trading or as held-to-maturity. Report available-for-sale securities at fair value. Report accumulated unrealized gains and losses on such securities, net of taxes, as a separate component of equity capital on item no. 8434.
