Data Description:

Includes notes and other instruments evidencing loans to operating domestic commercial and foreign banks. The term banks as used herein means operating national banks, state banks, trust companies, industrial banks, stock savings banks, private or unincorporated banks, american branches and agencies of foreign banks, and foreign banks. Foreign banks include foreign commercial banks, savings banks, discount houses, and other similar foreign institutions accepting short term deposits, including loans to foreign branches of other american banks.

Excludes inactive or closed banks, all mutual savings banks, savings and loan associations, mortgage companies, credit unions, and credit agencies owned in whole or in part by the federal government. Extension of credit to these organizations is reported against "Loans to Other Depository Institutions in the U.S. (1517)."

Also excluded are loans to central banks, foreign governments, foreign development banks, treasuries, exchange control offices, stabilization funds and such international institutions as the International Bank For Reconstruction and Development, Inter-American Development Bank, and nationalized banking and other banking institutions owned by foreign governments which have as an important part of their function, activities similar to those of a treasury, central bank, exchange control office, or stabilization fund. Loans to such institutions are included in "All Other Loans (2080)."

NOTE:

Reported as a derived item in Schedule RC-C for the FFIEC 031, 032 and 033 reports which includes the sum of items 1505(D) and 1510(D).

COMPARABILITY:

Beginning 3/31/94, no longer a derived item for the FR 2886B report, which included the sum of RCFN1500 and RCFN1510 and also RCON1500 which included the sum of RCFD1505 plus RCFD1510 minus RCFN1505 and RCFN1510.

Prior to 6/30/67, includes part of "securities purchased under agreements to resell."

Prior to 12/31/65, includes a large part of "federal funds sold."

Prior to 4/12/61, includes loans to central banks, foreign governments, and foreign official institutions.
