Data Description:

Includes loans, and other instruments evidencing loans, to operating domestic commercial banks and their branches located in the United States, Puerto Rico, and U.S. dependencies and insular possessions (including trust territories). Included as domestic commercial banks are operating national banks, state commercial banks, trust companies that perform a commercial banking business, industrial banks, stock savings banks, private or unincorporated banks, U.S. branches and agencies of foreign banks, and Edge Act and Agreement Corporations that perform a commercial banking business. Includes all overdrafts to demand deposit accounts of domestic commercial banks; that is, both unplanned over drafts (those overdrafts not involving an advance agreement) and advance agreement overdrafts (those overdrafts that have been contractually agreed to in advance). Also includes bankers' acceptances for the purpose of financing dollar exchanges that are drawn by a bank in Puerto Rico and other U.S. dependencies and insular possessions (including trust territories). Excludes loans to other domestic depository institutions such as mutual savings banks, savings and loan associations, and credit unions; all finance companies; acceptance companies; insurance companies; and credit agencies that are owned in whole or in part by the federal government. Extensions of credit to these organizations are included in "Loans to Other Depository Institutions in the U.S. (1517)" or "All Other Loans (2082)" for the "SUBC" series. Loans to inactive or closed banks are included in "Other Assets (2168)". For the FFIEC 002 report, included in Schedule RAL, "Other Assets Including Other Claims On Nonrelated Parties (2151)". NOTE: Beginning 6/30/01, for the 2886b report, title changed from "Loans to Commercial Banks in the U.S." to "Loans to and Acceptance of Commercial Banks." Beginning 3/31/01, no longer a derived item on Schedule RC-C. For the FFIEC 031, 032 and 033 reports, reported as a derived item in Schedule RC-C which includes the sum of items 1506 and 1507. Also reported as a derived item in Schedule C for the FFIEC 002 report. COMPARABILITY: Prior to 7/2/69, includes "Federal Funds Sold and Securities Purchased Under Agreements to Resell (1350)."
