Data Description:
Includes both direct loans and marketable instruments of finance companies purchased either directly from the issuing companies or from commercial papers dealers. Includes such loans to the following institutions: (1) Factors and other financial intermediaries; (2) Short-term business credit institutions that extend credit to finance inventories or to carry accounts receivable; and (3) Institutions whose functions are predominately to finance personal expenditures. Included here are loans only to those institutions listed above that are domiciled in the United States, Puerto Rico, and other U.S. dependencies and insular possessions including the U.S. trust territories. Loans to such institutions domiciled in foreign countries are reported in "Loans to Other Financial Institutions (1539)". Excludes all transactions that are included in "Federal Funds Sold and Securities Purchased Under Agreements to Resell (1350)". COMPARABILITY: Prior to 12/31/78, not shown separately but included in "Loans to Other Financial Institutions (1539)".
