Data Description:

Includes loans made by the reporting bank, or by others for its account, to any borrower other than a broker or dealer in securities, or other than a financial institution, for the purpose of purchasing or carrying equity or debt securities. Loans to carry securities includes the following: (1)   Loans made for the purpose of providing funds to repay indebtedness incurred in purchasing   securities; (2)   Loans that represent the renewal of loans to purchase or carry securities; (3)   Loans to investment companies including mutual funds but not small business investment   companies; (4)   Loans to "plan lenders" as defined in Section 207.4(a) of Federal Reserve Regulation G; (5)   Loans to lenders other than brokers, dealers, and banks whose principal business is to extend credit   for the purpose of purchasing or carrying securities as described in Section 221.3(q) of Regulation   U, unless the loan is excepted by that section. The determination of the purpose of a loan is made as follows: (1)   For loans that are fully collateralized by "stock", as defined by Regulation U, the purpose of the   loan is determined by the latest statement of purpose (form FR U-1) on file. (2)   For loans that are partially collateralized by "stock", the bank may determine the purpose of the   loan according to the most current information available. COMPARABILITY: Prior to 7/2/69, W416 series includes "Federal Funds Sold and Securities Purchased Under Agreements to Resell (1350)". Prior to 6/30/67, RCON series includes part of securities purchased under agreements to resell. Prior to 12/31/65, RCON series includes a small portion of federal funds sold.
