Data Description:
All time deposits standing to credit of banks in foreign countries (outside the U.S. and its territorial and insular possessions), including time balances of foreign branches of other American banks but excluding amounts due to own foreign branches. Includes all time deposits of foreign commercial banks, savings banks, discount houses, and other similar foreign institutions accepting short term deposits. Includes deposits of all such foreign institutions, including those affiliated with U.S. banking institutions, such as foreign offices related to U.S. branches and agencies of foreign banks and foreign banking institutions affiliated with Edge Act and Agreement Corporations. Excludes time deposits of central banks, foreign development banks, treasuries, exchange control offices, stabilization funds, and such international institutions as International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Inter-American Development Bank, and time deposits of nationalized banking and other banking institutions owned by central governments which have as an important part of their function, activities similar to those of a treasury, central bank, exchange control office, or stabilization fund. Nationalized banks not reforming such official functions are included here.
