Data Description:

Total transaction accounts and nontransaction accounts (including MMDA's) of public moneys made by or for account of the U.S. or some department, bureau, or official thereof. Deposits of U.S. postmasters of government funds which have come into their possession by virtue of their official positions are classified as U.S. Government deposits. The total amount of U.S. Government deposits arising from bond subscription sales of U.S. savings bonds, withheld federal income tax deposits, social security tax deposits, other deposits credited to the U.S. Treasury, and all other government deposits such as disbursing accounts are included here.

Deposits of post-exchanges at military posts and deposits of company, battery, and similar funds, and other quasi-government accounts are reported here only if reporting bank has been designated by the Treasury as a depository for such funds.

COMPARABILITY:

Beginning 3/31/01, reported as a derived item on the FFIEC 041 report, includes the sum of items 2202 and 2520.

Beginning 3/31/84, reported as a derived item which includes the sum of items 2202 and 2520.

Prior to 3/31/84, shown as a separate item. For the period 12/31/73 thru 10/15/74, national banks excludes deposits of U.S. postmasters of government funds which have come into their possession by virtue of their official positions. These are included in "Demand Deposits of Other Individuals, Partnerships, and Corporations (2240)" and "Other Time Deposits of Individuals, Partnerships, and Corporations (2420)".
