Data Description:

U.S. branches and agencies of foreign banks includes U.S.-domiciled branches and agencies of: (1) banks in foreign countries and (2) foreign official banking institutions. Foreign official banking institutions includes central banks and nationalized banking and other banking institutions owned by foreign governments that have as an important part of their function activities similar to those of a central bank. Reciprocal balances with these banking institutions are reported gross.

NOTE:

Reported only by banks with foreign offices.


Reported here are all deposits (demand, time, and savings) of U.S.-domiciled branches and agencies of foreign banks and deposits of U.S.-domiciled offices of New York State Article XII investment companies that are majority-owned by one or more foreign banks.


Excludes deposits of U.S. -chartered banks owned by foreign banks or by foreign official banking institutions (reported in "Deposits of Other Commercial Banks in the U.S. (2663)").
