Data Description:

Includes the amount outstanding of securitized installment loans to individuals, both direct loans and indirect loans (purchased paper, arising from the retail sale of private passenger automobiles), regardless of whether the loans are collateralized by the automobiles. For purposes of this item, private passenger automobiles include minivans, vans, sport-utility vehicles, pick-up trucks, and similar light trucks for personal use. "Securitized loans" refers to loans packaged and sold without recourse by the reporting bank to a trustee or other third party who uses the loan package as collateral for an asset-backed security that is sold to investors. The sale of the loan package results in the removal of the underlying loans from the selling institution's balance sheet. Includes loans securitized in prior months or quarters as well as in the current month or quarter. Excludes the amounts of outright loan sales that have not been packaged to collateralize an asset-backed security. Also excludes securitized noninstallment loans and securitized installment loans to individuals for the purpose of purchasing motorcycles, travel trailers, campers, and similar recreational vehicles, pickup and panel trucks, vans, and other similar vehicles for personal use (reported in item 2743). NOTE: For the "RCFD" and "RCON" series, reported only by the FFIEC 031 and 032 reporters. Also completed for the September report only. COMPARABILITY: Beginning 3/31/1998, includes securitized consumer loans to purchase vans and light trucks for personal use.
