Total amount of losses incurred as a result of the sale of mortgage loans and contracts or of participating interests in such assets. Includes: (1) establishment or an increase in the related valuation allowances and reserves; (2) losses on the origination if below market rate mortgages; and (3) losses from discounting the prepayment of low interest rate mortgages. Includes, also, all bad debts not charged to the general reserve account.
