Data Description:

Includes the amount outstanding of credit to consumers to purchase private passenger cars that have been "securitized." (See item 2751.)

Excludes the amounts of outright asset sales that have not been packaged to collateralize an asset-backed security. Also excludes noninstallment loans that have been securitized.

"Securitized assets" refers to retail, wholesale and lease financing receivables that have been packaged and sold by the reporting finance company to a trustee or other third party who sues the receivable package as collateral for an asset-backed security that is sold to investors. The sale of the package results in the removal of the underlying receivables from the selling company's balance sheet. Includes receivables securitized in prior months as well as in the current month.
