Data Description:
Includes all securities issued by states and political subdivisions in the United States held for trading or investment purposes. States and political subdivisions in the U.S., for the purposes of this report, includes: (1) the fifty states of the United States and the District of Columbia and their counties, municipalities, school districts, irrigation districts, and drainage and sewer districts; and (2) the governments of Puerto Rico and of the U.S. territories and possessions and their political subdivisions.
Also includes rated and non-rated general obligations, municipal revenue bonds issued for housing, university or dormitory purposes, investment quality bonds, including "public ownership" industrial development bonds in which the broker/dealer was an underwriter or dealer. Included are such obligations as notes, bonds, and debentures, obligations that are guaranteed by the U.S. Government, detached state and political subdivision coupons and ex-coupons, state and political subdivision securities held as the result of either their purchase or the broker/dealer's stripping of such securities.
