Data Description:
To the extent authorized under applicable laws or regulations, banks or bank holding companies may invest in the equity portion of a highly-leveraged financing package indirectly through an investment pool or equity fund, or directly in specific transactions. Includes the aggregate book value of all equity investments, direct or indirect, whether held by the bank or parent company, by a Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) owned by the bank, or by any other subsidiary of the bank or bank holding company.
Indirect investments in HLTs may occur through HLT funds, bridge funds, mezzanine financing funds, and other similar funds. If a bank or a subsidiary of the bank or bank holding company or subsidiary invests in a fund which contains both HLT and non-HLT investments, the portion of this investment which represents the proportion of HLT investments to total outstanding investments in the fund is reported.
NOTE:
For the FR Y-9C report, this item is reported on Schedule HC-K and is completed only by bank holding companies with total consolidated assets of $1 billion or more, including Section 20 securities affiliates.
